UPSC EWS 2024 Updates Civil Services Exam Rules: EWS Candidates Get Extended Deadline

New Delhi, March 8th, 2024 – The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released an important update to the Civil Services Examination Rules-2023. This update specifically addresses Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation benefits, providing a relaxed deadline for specific documentation.

Department of Personnel and Training (Reservation Division) has issued a crucial notification, dated 29th February 2024, bearing reference number 36039/15/2023-Estt.(Res.-II). This notification has significant implications for candidates aspiring to appear for the Civil Services Examination-2023, particularly those seeking reservation/relaxation benefits under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category.

What’s the Key Change?

The notification provides an extended deadline for EWS category candidates to submit their Income & Asset Certificate. If you belong to the EWS category and have already submitted an Income & Asset Certificate signed by a Naib Tehsildar or equivalent authority, you now have time to get it countersigned by a Tehsildar or competent authority.

UPSC Clarification on Submission

The amendment clarifies that candidates who have submitted the requisite Income & Asset Certificate signed by the Naib Tehsildar or an authority equivalent to Naib Tehsildar, and issued on or before the closing date of the application for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination-2023, may resubmit a copy of the same certificate. However, this resubmission must be duly counter-signed by the Tehsildar or the Competent Authority.
